Session Summary

Teacher and Leadership Educators of Color as Wounded Healers: Disrupting Dehumanization in Educator Preparation Programs

Sun, April 16, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 2, Missouri

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium will examine interventions used to disrupt university structures that have been harmful to the cultural souls of teacher/ed leadership educators, pre-service teachers/leaders of color, and potential white co-conspirators (Love, 2019). This symposium will explore how university-based, critically conscious teacher and leader educators of color navigate their local context and institutions as wounded healers. Papers will explore the cultural intuition and critical wisdom developed when navigating the toxic stress of schooling, all of which cultivated their critical praxis as teacher and leader educators and wounded healers. This panel hopes to offer insights to effective approaches for identifying, naming, and transforming the dehumanization of schooling through teacher/leader education as projects of humanization.
