Session Type: Symposium
Research continues to highlight the need to retain and support both teachers and leaders of color (Carver-Thomas, 2017), yet the field lacks a robust exploration of how they experience multiple identity locations and the resulting mediating impact on their work. This session aims to bring together studies that span multiple gender and ethno-racial identities of underrepresented leaders and teachers through quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches. The discussion will focus on the synergistic need to attend to the multiple truths and perspectives across and within various underrepresented actors with a focus on wellbeing and the voices of leaders. By highlighting the truths of underrepresented educators, this session seeks to contribute to creating the conditions needed to support a thriving diverse workforce.
