Abstract

Asian diaspora educational workers explore Asian diasporas as methodologies inherent in five programs of inquiry into historical struggles of Asian diasporic people in the United States. Drawing upon a wide array of decolonizing methodological traditions, Asian diaspora inquiries purposefully work against orientalized, imperialized, racialized, gendered, classed, and other intersected oppressions. These inquiries allow participants to name their predicaments, tell their stories, ask hard questions, and contest deficit narratives that further marginalize their existence. With unfaltering commitment to humility, solidarity, and justice, these inquiries trouble accepted notions of what counts as educational research and challenge imperialized and colonized ways of engaging in, interpreting, and writing about research. Decolonizing theoretical traditions, forms of inquiry, and modes of representation will be explored.
