Session Type: Paper Session
Building on the theme, Interrogating Consequential Education Research In Pursuit of Truth, this session explores the current political landscape that obstructs truth through legislation, fear, and misinformation in the field of education. More specifically, key analytical research frameworks such as Critical Race Theory, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, Equity focused frameworks, etc., have been criminalized by conservative groups and organizations that rely on dishonest hegemonic approaches to influence perspectives regarding the aforementioned frameworks. We endeavor to discuss how this obstruction has impacted scholarly work, teaching, and service across multiple educational disciplines. We discuss methods to address this smear campaign to create meaningful educational experiences for students and future scholars that support social justice, equity, and critical analysis of systemic racism in education.
