In response to this year’s AERA theme, Leveraging Education Research in a Post-truth Era, the Paulo Freire SIG recognizes this post-truth crisis as an opportunity to reframe educational research practices rather than reclaim or defend “truth” as territory. While Paulo Freire was an academic, above all, he was an educator and activist. His academic work was always educational and political, wrought with the purpose of alleviating human suffering. Inquiry was at the core of the educative process, but the goals of the researcher/educator/activist did not supplant the goals of the teacher and learner: reading the word and the world to catalyze material changes in local and global contexts.
