A Hit Dog Will Holler: Attacks on Education as Backlash to Truth-Seeking

Fri, April 14, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: East Tower- Ballroom Level, Grand Hall I

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

In this session, we invite three scholars for their perspective and analysis of the current attacks on truth as a backlash to truth-seeking from their different but intertwined fields/contexts: First Nations communication and tribal relations, intersectional dimensions of race, culture, and technology, as well as race, class, and music. One outcome of the session is to collaboratively explore how education researchers can speak back to the current conditions surrounding the backlash to truth-seeking through questions such as: How do we put research/scholarship into practice in a climate of anti-truth? How do we communicate truth to a larger audience going beyond traditional academic writing? How do we transcend our truth to embrace collective truths to serve the common good?
