Consequential Educational Research for Humanizing Black and Latinx Boys Across the K–12 Spectrum

Abstract

The papers in this session will draw on thorough consequential research in their literature reviews and will present deeply and richly theoretical paper presentations. While literature reviews will be key to establish a lineage of thought, to arrive at the type of consequential truth urged by President Milner, most papers will draw on the voices of boys themselves as they qualitatively reflect on and speak back to factors related to their educational development. In total, papers will contribute to answering the following questions:

1. How might we harness what we have learned through consequential research to shape cutting edge research agendas about Black and Latinx boys?

2. In what ways can we draw from the voices of Black and Latinx boys in advocating for educational practices and school policies that contribute to their thriving?

3. What are some of the key conceptual approaches, theoretical framings, and methodologies that hold promise for asking and answering the most fruitful PreK-12 educational research questions related to better experiences for Black and Latinx boys?

4. What are findings from recent studies on Black and Latinx boys that hold promise for bending the field of educational research in new ways?
