Abstract

This Division K Vice-Presidential Symposium brings together Indigenous scholars who examine the experiences of Indigenous students labeled with disabilities and their families. Drawing from the literature, their embodied experiences, and research, they will discuss the epistemological challenges in how Indigenous families and students are discussed in the special education literature. Representing a range of pedagogical entry points—from P-12 policies and practices to teacher education and doctoral training programs—the presenters will discuss implications for teachers and teacher education programs.
