Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

In this session, we take up the challenge put forth by this year’s conference theme, by pushing against boundaries of what counts as scientific ideas, methods, and collaborations.

In partnership with the Chicago Learning Exchange, this session brings together 45 Chicagoland youth and STEM mentors to reimagine AERA’s conference community space to counter the challenges they, as urban youth scholars face in pursuit of a STEM lifestyle.

Participants will represent 15 of Chicago’s community-based organizations, including MAPSCorps, STEAMbassadors, and My Chi My Future. In addition, highlighted in this session will be the research from Northwestern University’s Digital Youth Network Lab representing regional landscape analysis, interactive dashboards, and youth scholar-led posters. The session will be hosted by Digital Youth Network co-founder Dr. Nichole Pinkard, and emceed by Digital Youth Network alums who are professional educators and artists.
