Executive Function Coaching in Higher Education

Fri, April 12, 11:25am to 12:55pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Coaching is a promising service delivery model that some colleges are beginning to provide to some students, but typically only to students with learning disabilities. A specialty within the expanding field of personal coaching, executive function (EF) coaching, provides support for the development of skills needed to manage EF challenges. This qualitative research project is a collection of three case studies of higher education environments with self-proclaimed, strong EF coaching practices. A cross-case analysis indicates that coaching must be comprehensive and cover many EF skills, the more individually tailored the coaching is, the better, and coaching must build in complexity over time and allow participants to apply skills across generalized contexts.
