This course-embedded self-study engaged one doctoral cohort of educational leaders (n = 13) in researching their own development as researchers over the first 24 months of their program with the goal of improving researcher self-efficacy. Findings indicate significant (p < .05) growth in particular areas, including confidence writing a literature review, choosing a dissertation topic, and using SPSS. There was also significant growth in the item: I am a researcher. The particular EdD program involved in this study incorporates Carnegie (CPED) principles into its program design, focusing on developing scholarly practitioners. This study utilized inquiry as practice in engaging students as researchers, which can serve as a model for similar programs that develop doctoral candidates with cohort-based models.
