This project explores the experiences of Black female co-directors of a university teacher residency that supports mostly Black educators. The residency is situated in a Southeastern U.S. city. The research was guided by the question: what are the experiences of Black educators leading a teacher residency for mostly Black teachers working in service of Black communities? Narrative inquiry and storying were utilized to better understand the co-directors’ experiences. Co-directors stated they could authentically be themselves together without the overarching thoughts/hesitations that come along working across lines of race. Their work was challenged/constrained by issues of time in relation to democratic processes and anti-Blackness. The co-directors focused their energies on centering justice, joy, and Black liberatory futures.
