The study investigates critical questions and centers college students’ experiences of art and social justice in an Arts Based Service-Learning. The study is grounded in Critical Pedagogy. Participants were recruited using purposeful sampling with the specific criteria that they completed and passed the course in the spring of 2018, 2020, or 2022 to be eligible for participation. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews. In Vivo coding and Structural Coding were used as first-cycle coding methods and Poetic representation and a Coding chart strategy were used for second-cycle coding. Overall, the experience of the class influenced participants' perceptions of art and social justice, empowered students to create change, and developed their critical consciousness.
