An Investigation of Early Childhood Support on Development of Problem-Solving Skills

Fri, April 12, 9:35 to 11:05am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The development of problem-solving skills has a profound impact on child growth. In 2021, over $8 million of program funding was designated from California Proposition 10 to sponsor early learning across a land area as large as the state of New Jersey. The effectiveness of program support is examined in this study by the ASQ-3 data from 1,053 children ages 0-5. The growth of problem-solving skills is significantly above the age-specific thresholds, which confirms the positive impacts of the program support. The effect size indicates no practical disparity in problem-solving development across the gender and age groupings. The benefit of the early investment is discussed to support children’s growth in the problem-solving domain.
