Borrowing data from three design studies examining how students experience a four-week unit focused on a more critical examination of America’s wars, this manuscript details the changing perspectives of nine students’ definition a just war. Using student essays, student notebooks, observation and interview data, this article explores what classroom activities challenged and impacted student understanding.
