The Relationship Between Fourth Graders’ Social and Individual Enablers of Creativity in Science

Abstract

This study employed assessment framework established by the OECD (PISA) that capturing influential impact factors of creative thinking in science. 14,041 fourth graders from 309 primary schools were recruited from China. The investigation included social enablers and individual enablers of creativity in science. The descriptive analysis of students’ responses on individual enablers indicated that the performance of students on attitude towards science, interest in science, engagement in science learning, and scientific career orientation showed a decreasing trend. While the result of LASSO and the nomogram indicated that six common variables remained in the model when predicting the relationship between social enablers and individual enablers. The findings shed light on what teachers, schools, and families should concentrate on in cultivating creativity.
