The purpose of this research is to examine how Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) prepare Black women and men to respond to individual racism and racial microagressions in predominantly white workplace environments and predominantly white graduate schools. A process operationalized from the data based on the responses of Black women and men explains the major theme. Gaining an understanding of college-to-career transitions and maximizing productive educational outcomes are the primary goals of this study. Practical implications for students, faculty and administrators at HBCUs is offered. This proposed research aligns directly with the 2024 AERA theme Dismantling Racial Injustice and Constructing Educational Possibilities: A Call to Action.
