This study draws from theories and praxis on ethnic studies movement and AsianCrit to tell the story of Asian American Voices for Education, a grassroots collective that has been fighting for K-12 Asian American studies in Georgia. Consisting of Asian American parents, students, teachers, and community members, AAVEd encapsulates a grassroot organizing to disrupt official curriculum that reproduces white supremacy and colonial legacies. The research question was: Who are the people behind GA’s K-12 Asian American studies movement, and what are their hopes, dreams, struggles, and joys in advancing liberatory curriculum for all students? The findings highlight the importance of local contexts and coalition-building as well as the resistance of Asian American communities in the fight against white settler supremacy.
