There are over 1200 Centers for Teaching and Learning (CTLs) in the US, and the majority of students in the U.S. (60%) are studying in colleges and universities affiliated with a CTL. Because of this broad impact, it is important to understand CTL strategies used to forward key aims such as faculty professional learning, student success, DEIJ, and organizational change. This session applies a sociological lens to theoretically categorize change strategies. It then applies this lens to over 1,000 CTL statements of purpose (mission, vision, goals, and/or values) to categorize the most common approaches. Finally, using a semantic analysis, it draws comparisons to a smaller study of CTL missions, enacted a decade ago, to understand trends in educational development strategy.
