Analysis of Preservice Teachers’ Strategies Related to Area and Volume Measurements

Sat, April 13, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This study examined elementary preservice teachers' (PSTs) strategies in solving area and volume tasks. Our results show that many PSTs predictably preferred procedural strategies, but more than half of them were not able to use procedures correctly.
Only few of them were able to offer both conceptual and procedural strategies correctly. Recommendations and suggestions to teacher education community are included.
