Building on the literature, we propose a model in which parents’ quality of interpersonal relationships (QIR) with three referents (school principal, teacher, own child) plays a key role in their perception of school climate. This research was conducted with two Canadian samples: 1) 339 parents whose child is enrolled in primary school; 2) 206 parents whose child is enrolled in secondary school (either middle or high school). The findings of the multiple regression analyses show that the QIR with the three referents predict the six dimensions of school climate (relational between students, relational between students and teachers, justice, educational, connectedness, security) in distinct and complementary ways. Theoretical and practical implications of this research study will be addressed throughout the presentation.
