Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the privileges and consequences attached to code- switching for Black Americans. Through personal anecdotes, and vignettes, this paper will also examine the importance of holding onto the home language, in this case Black English, while in pursuit of Standard English, or the White Voice.
