The aim of the study was to examine the development of engagement on university studies of the same cohort of Finnish university students with nationally representative samples for three academic years. A dynamic model of student engagement and Engagement Evaluation Questionnaire (EEQ) were utilised in the study. Altogether 974 university students representing different disciplines from all 13 Finnish universities responded to the survey during the three-year follow-up. Four engagement profiles (strongly engaged, personally engaged, socially engaged, and disengaged) were identified in the LTA analyses. The engagement profiles were relatively stable across the three time points, despite some maladaptive and adaptive changes. Versatile associations between engagement profiles and priority of students’ study fields, academic achievement, and withdrawal intentions were found.
