This book provides focuses at the department level providing open and practical advice to department chairs. This resource aids in redefining the academy to address the problems of the future with insights from the humanities, social sciences, arts, and STEM. The authors' comments and suggestions help to create a critical and transformational understanding of race, gender, and leadership in higher education. It is a collection of private letters sent to current and prospective Black women academic professionals by well-known Black women department chairs, deans, vice provosts, and university presidents. It provides a wealth of peer mentoring and professional development opportunities emanating from a network of Black women department chairs who are currently serving in leadership positions in colleges and universities.
