Tracing the Evolution of Educational Leadership Preparation Research From 1966 to 2023: A Topographical and Automated Text Analysis

Abstract

This study presents a preliminary analysis of educational leader preparation research from 1966 to 2023. Examining 666 articles (14,791 pages) using the topographical approach and Structural Topic Models (STM), it reveals uneven distribution and dominance from western countries. Estimating 11 topics, I found that equity-related topics are highly associated with the US context. Over time, prevalent topics remain stable in general with no significant year-based effects. The study offers insights for future leadership preparation research.
