Abstract

This study validated an instrument that measured non-STEM major students’ computational thinking (CT) skills. Different from existing instruments, our instrument called the Computational Thinking Knowledge Test (CTKT) embedded questions in social and cultural contexts. We collected and analyzed the data collected from 162 pre-service teachers after they completed a one-week CT module. Results of the study showed that 13 questions in the test consistently measured the key CT skills, namely abstraction, algorithmic thinking, pattern recognition, and decomposition skills.
