We examine how political debate about migration and education is shaped by the print news media in two contrasting countries. The migration debate is divisive, often setting the needs of newcomers fleeing desperate circumstances against those of settled communities with stretched resources. Both groups regard education as a hope for the future. Germany is the primary destination for refugees and asylum seekers in Europe, whilst England with its long colonial history has the most diverse population. Over six-months, we categorized reports on migration and education from national and regional newspapers. We then analyzed a small number chosen as representative to identify the mediatization strategies used.
