Technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), is a t ool through which humans better understand and interpret the world. Qualitative research, especially content analysis, has a history of using AI, yet with the exponential growth of AI, additional research on its impact on educational research is needed. This comparative content analysis examines how a graduate student researcher and AI compare in their interpretation and analysis of data. Results indicate that AI produces information that requires a human to edit, a human affords the opportunity to draw upon information outside of the defined data, the use of intertextuality for both AI and human data analysis, and the ability to change course. Caution must be exercised due to the racist possibilities of AI.
