In California, the racial mismatch between educators and the student body, coupled with the challenges associated with staying in the profession, creates an urgent need to determine successful retention strategies for educators of color. This study highlights culturally-responsive school leadership (CRSL) practices in three public-charter schools in California that are successfully and intentionally retaining educators of color. Examples of CRSL practices include building trust through listening, leveraging the expertise of educators, and creating structures for educators of color to develop their leadership. These efforts contribute to the overall collective efficacy of the school community.
