Professional learning community has been increasingly viewed as an important facilitator of school success. Based on the relationship approach to leadership, this study explored the relationship between the three dimensions of paternalistic leadership (moral, benevolent, and authoritarian leadership), different aspects of interpersonal trust (trust in principals and trust in colleagues), and professional learning community. A total of 1123 primary and secondary school teachers in China participated in this study. The results indicated that moral leadership and benevolent leadership could directly influence professional learning community, while authoritarian leadership had no significant effect. Additionally, moral leadership, benevolent leadership and authoritative leadership indirectly influenced professional learning community through trust in colleagues, while the mediating effect of trust in principals was not significant.
