This literature review aims to characterize existing research that attends to matters of environmental justice (EJ) and climate justice (CJ) in educational policy and practice. Following a standard methodology for systematic and scoping reviews, we identified 259 articles that merited inclusion in our review. We then structurally coded and further reviewed these articles to identify how they conceptualized EJ and CJ. Ultimately, we found that educational researchers have situated their work across a wide range of disciplines and conceptualized EJ and CJ broadly, with opportunities and challenges posed by such heterogeneity. Findings from this review can aid both novice and seasoned researchers in better situating their current and future inquiries on EJ and CJ in education.
