Sun, April 14, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This scoping review explores the status of educational research on sleep time in early childhood education and care settings from a cultural historical perspective. To this end, a selection of 37 peer reviewed studies focusing on sleep time practices, pedagogics and aspects impacting them out of 733 potential ones were analyzed based on their rationale, theoretical framework, study design and results. In addition, the studies were interpreted from a cultural-historical theory perspective to provide a further, theoretically informed reading of them. The initial results of the study suggest that currently research on sleep time is dominantly carried out via large scale surveys with mix method analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
