Finding the Black STEM Students: Sharing the Recruitment Strategy of Racial Equity Work in Georgia

Fri, April 12, 9:35 to 11:05am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This presentation shares work that is being done across six institutions seeking to contribute to racial equity by enhancing knowledge on the various meanings of being Black undergraduate STEM students. The current paper is focused on the developing and ongoing research efforts in Georgia, and it details our process in identifying and selecting the seven institutions where we will concentrate our time and resources to maximize diversity in Black STEM students’ perspectives on the racial climate at their institutions. The paper will discuss the resources (e.g., documents and links) that were used towards this end. Specifically, we articulate our thought process in identifying these institutions, the STEM majors that they offer, and the Black students that they serve.
