An accurate understanding of teachers’ well-being is crucial for fostering an effective and sustainable teaching workforce and positively supporting teachers and students. The present study explored how the Professional Quality of Life Scale Version 5 (ProQOL) scale assesses compassion fatigue among teachers in the United States within the context of acute stress (i.e., COVID-19), shedding light on the unique experiences of educators during challenging times. Preliminary findings indicate that teachers’ levels of compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary stress may significantly deviate during times of acute stress from the ProQOL measurement. Our study enhances the current understanding of teachers' well-being and informs strategies for supporting their professional and personal needs.
