In-Service Features That Predict Person-Organization Fit With Teaching Colleagues

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify features of in-service teachers’ schools that predict perceived person-organization (P-O) fit between early career teachers and their teaching colleagues. This is important as identifying in-service features that may develop perceived P-O fit with teaching colleagues can inform educational stakeholders of practices and policies that can increase the likelihood of retaining early career teachers. Multiple regression analyses were conducted that included data on 106 participants from their last year in their teacher preparation program to their second year as a teacher of record. Our findings suggest schools should provide school-based mentors for FYTs, encourage a teacher community built on collective responsibility, and teacher evaluation with meaningful feedback that communicates instructional priorities.
