R Statistical Programming in Higher Education

Fri, April 12, 4:55 to 6:25pm, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 5, Salon I

Abstract

R is an open-source software for statistical programming. With its increased popularity, graduates could be more marketable for both academic and industry jobs by learning such programs while in school. Additionally, using a programming language allows for more transparency in research by sharing the statistical approach and allowing for research replication. This evidence gap map (EGM) explores the ways that R has been used in applied research college courses and reports on the relevant published and unpublished studies. Studies include both quantitative and qualitative work in higher education, non-computer science (or related) disciplines. Additionally, this EGM reports on the outcomes discussed in the included studies and highlights areas where evidence is missing.
