This qualitative, narrative inquiry study explored the experiences and perspectives of truant students and educational professionals who work with them, using critical pedagogy as the theoretical framework. By analyzing data from semi-structured interviews, observations, and participant writings, this study contributes to understanding the impact of truancy on marginalized groups. Focusing on emerging themes and patterns, this research highlights the importance of listening to the expertise of those directly involved in truancy, rather than continuing to solely rely on policy makers. Utilizing first-hand narratives in persuading educational and legal professionals could contribute to more equitable practices concerning this issue.
