Traditional math education has focused on finding “right” answers instead of creatively exploring various approaches. Research suggests that fostering ownership of mathematical problems by utilizing a story-based creative pedagogy holds great promise in engaging young learners in mathematics learning. However, limited attention has been paid to how to foster creating math stories based on real-life stories. This study created a story-based mathematics learning platform called ART-Math (Abstraction - Representation - Transformation (ART)-Math) tailored for elementary school students to learn mathematics by creating stories and drawing representations. The classroom study with twelve elementary school students revealed that ART-Math provides a highly engaging learning experience with easy usability and effectively improves students’ mathematics knowledge.
