Addressing Nursing Students’ Anxiety During Simulation Sessions: A Pilot Intervention Study

Fri, April 12, 11:25am to 12:55pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Simulation-based education plays a vital role in nursing education; however, it consistently induces high levels of anxiety among nursing students. This study implemented a mindfulness intervention to alleviate simulation-induced anxiety in nursing students. A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 54 nursing students. ANOVA and MANCOVA analysis of survey and emotion-tracking system data revealed significant anxiety reduction in the experimental group compared to the control group during simulation sessions (i.e., frequency of anxiety felt by students: F[1, 53] = 6.145, p = 0.016; intensity of anxiety felt by students: F[1, 51] = 3.771, p = 0.050; duration of anxiety felt by students: F[1, 50] = 4.223, p = 0.017). Mindfulness intervention shows promise in alleviating nursing students' anxiety during simulations.
