More Equity in Teacher Education Through Digitalization? A Critical Evaluation of New Digital Teaching-Learning Interventions

Sun, April 14, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Current educational heterogeneity research indicates the high demand for more open online educational resources in teacher education to foster prospective teachers’ action-related knowledge and skills independent of students’ learning preconditions (incl. wealth or impairment like color blindness). We focus on developing and evaluating digital multimedia tools for teacher education. We present two new exemplary tools which focus on fostering pedagogical knowledge and skills regarding how to use digital media in the classroom. We evaluated these tools in a pre-post design with an intervention group and a control group (with respect to heterogeneity-relevant variables, e.g., gender, origin). Results regarding their effectiveness, use-fulness, and influences indicate the high potential of multimedia tools to effectively foster teaching skills across heterogeneous university student bodies.
