Developing and Validating an Ethical Sensitivity Scale in Academic Activities (Poster 35)

Abstract

The current study was conducted to develop and validate a scale that measures Ethical Sensitivity Scale in Academic Activities (ESSA). The scale was developed following a standard survey design process with content validity. The final scale includes 20 items from three content areas: cheating, plagiarism, and falsification. Later, the scale was validated through factor analysis and measurement invariance at a national university with data from 654 students. The one-factor structure was selected to be the optimal model due to the high correlations among subscales. Measurement invariance of gender and ethnicity was established. The results are relevant to stakeholders interested in examining and improving ethical sensitivity in academic activities for students in higher education.
