In this paper, the author uses counterstorytelling as a research method to tell a story about critical race counterstorytelling. Specifically, in this story, there are two composite characters, Alberto and his professor, Dra. Irene Martinez, who are used to engage in a real and critical dialogue about why critical race counterstorytelling is an important and necessary research method. Drawing on literature on critical race counterstorytelling, the author uses this counterstory to challenge the misconception that counterstories are simply interview responses by People of Color about racism and white supremacy. Rather, the author argues that counterstorytelling is grounded in research and involves purposeful storytelling to directly and unapologetically disrupt systems of oppression like white supremacy, anti-Blackness, racism, and so on.
