This research study explores the experiences of Black teachers in a New Jersey school district committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The study seeks to understand how Black teachers perceive support in the context of a nationwide war against critical race theory (CRT) and antiracist curriculum. Through interviews and focus groups, the study reveals how Black teachers' sense of support is influenced by their alignment with administrators' approaches to DEI. While some teachers feel supported when their perspectives align politically, others experience disillusionment and political dismissal. The findings underscore the importance of empathy-driven conversations and transparent communication to create a supportive environment for Black teachers. Ultimately, the study contributes to dismantling racial injustice and promoting educational equity in schools.
