Considering that teachers face many competing tasks, ensuring that teachers’ time is spent in a way that mitigate work-related stress beyond manageable levels is essential. Hence, to examine the potential connection between teacher time use on different tasks and teacher workload stress, we analyzed U.S. data from the TALIS 2018 data using Hierarchical Linear Modeling. We found that an increase in time spent on a) individual preparation of lessons and b) marking and correcting student work consistently contribute to increased workload stress, whereas c) counseling students and d) participation in school management unremittingly connect to a decrease in workload stress. Our results suggest that how teachers spend their time on different tasks is dissimilarly related to their workload stress.
