Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between the chronological order of discussion threads and student interactivity on online discussion board. Results did not support the relationship in weekly online discussion over a 6-week period. The absence of the relationship contradicted the initial research assumptions and suggested the influence of multiple factors in shaping thread interactivity. The importance of contextual factors in online discussion, such as deadlines and interface design, is discussed. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of student behavior and provide valuable insights for instructional design to facilitate engaging online learning environments.
