The purpose of this study is to contribute to understanding how expertise is articulated and communicated in simulator-based training in healthcare. Professional expertise refers to performative elements of knowing in operators’ and facilitators’ reflective conversations during simulations and debriefings in full-scale nurse simulator-practices. The study builds on interaction analysis of 24 video-documented (12h) conversations during such activities. Findings show how the articulations of professional knowing by the participants serve as resources in the co-construction of expertise. The analyses illustrate that professional knowledge has a degree of abstractness, and therefore relies on analysis, judgement, and perspective-taking in situ. In the simulation environment, the participants coordinate and clarify their general know-how in relation to the specifics of the evolving care activities.
