This paper argues for the inclusion of sustainability as an element of teachers’ professional digital competence and explores student teachers’ experiences of a course on digital technologies and sustainability. Student teachers’ reactions to the course were recorded through a survey. It found that the student teachers had limited prior knowledge of the topic, but almost all acknowledged its importance, particularly in raising their awareness of global inequality. The student teachers believed that experience of the course would change their behaviour and influence their teaching, but acknowledged that existing habits would be difficult to change. Most believed it would influence their teaching, but the extent to which curriculum demands and school expectations will temper these expectations is a likely issue.
