Thu, April 11, 12:40 to 2:10pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

In this paper, the authors analyze how aspiring school leaders in an educational leadership preparation program confront disorienting dilemmas when they encounter content knowledge related to equity and justice. They discuss emergent themes related to students’ two key disorienting dilemmas: The Dilemma of how to act Based on New Knowledge and The Dilemma of who I am in Relation to my Students. Utilizing transformative learning theory this paper addresses how aspiring school leaders can challenge their worldviews and taken for granted assumptions in order to reconstruct new viewpoints that are productive in their equity and justice-oriented leadership development journey.
