This study explores the use of Asian war-themed children’s literature in teacher education to challenge preservice teachers’ understanding of U.S. militarism, foreign policies, and colonial history. Leveraging critical pedagogy, the research confronts dominant narratives and curriculum silences that marginalize Asian experiences, thereby fostering global citizenship and a commitment to social justice. Through three case studies, it reveals how this pedagogical approach reshapes perspectives and promotes a nuanced understanding of U.S. global role. Aligning with the AERA’s theme of dismantling racial injustice, the study signifies a step towards constructing racial injustice, the study signifies a step towards constructing an educational reality that disrupts oppressive practices, cultivates justice, and prepares future educators to actively participate in building a more equitable world.
