Since 1993 some founder members of the AERA S-STEP SIG have been researching their continuing professional development as global educators and educational researchers. They have been generating valid, evidence and values-laden explanations of their educational influences in their own learning, in the learning of others and in the learning of the social formations within which the practice is located, with values of human flourishing. These values include freedom, justice and democracy. The paper analyses the educational influences of 30 years of S-STEP research in legitimating an epistemology of educational research with its units of appraisal, standards of judgement and living logics that define the rationality of the S-STEP researchers’ explanations of educational influences in learning within different cultures of inquiry.
